Leon James Horton, 82, died November 20, 2014. Funeral will be Sunday, November 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Interment will be an Army Military Service at King Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Faye Johnson.

Leon James Horton, 82, of Town Creek, Alabama, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama. He was born June 14, 1932, in Michie, Tennessee, McNairy County. He retired from the Lawrence County Board of Education where he was employed as a teacher. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy Faye Johnson Horton, Town Creek, Alabama; son, James Timothy Horton (Angela), Marion, North Carolina; daughters, Amanda Horton Bogle (Joe), Joelton, Tennessee, and Melinda Horton Bumpas (Tim), Leighton, Alabama; sister, Verlin George, Hohenwald Tennessee; grandson, Adam Bogle (Ashley), Goodlettsville, Tennessee; granddaughters, Amy Hogg (Paul), Gallatin, Tennessee, Cassie Jernigan (Jeff), Nashville, Tennessee, Tamra Bartlett, Marion, North Carolina, Jordan Bumpas, Leighton, Alabama, and Janna Chaney (Brad), Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by father, Denton Riley Lee Horton, mother, Velma Ann Hardin Horton, and grandson, Caleb Horton.

He was a member of Leighton Church of Christ and was a minister for 60 years for Different Church of Christ.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel. Paul Haley and Gerald Pennington are officiating. Pallbearers are Adam Bogle, Jeff Jernigan, Paul Hogg, Brad Chaney, Kenny Lowery, and Tim Mardis. Burial, with military honors, will be in King Cemetery.
