Patricia Sodman, of Braham, MN, passed away peacefully at Grace Pointe Crossing West Gables in Cambridge. MN, on Thurs, Nov 20, 2014, at the age of 74. Born to Walter and Gladys Puffer, the third of four children grew up in Minneapolis, MN, and attended St Bridget’s with her siblings. She was preceded in death by parents: Walter and Gladys Puffer; husband: Walter Schaar (d), spouse: Paul Sodman; and Debra Puffer, Stephanie Puffer, Michael Puffer and Jeffrey Randall. After marrying Walter Schaar in 1958. and 6 'lil chickens' later, they decided country life would be the best place for them. The city girl quickly learned she was intended for farm life – animals, crops and all. She was devoted to her family and always made each of her children feel they were the most important things in her life. From taking them to the first day of kindergarten (promising to stay) to watching them create their lives and families. She enjoyed every phase thoroughly. She helped teach (and reteach) how to walk, she even helped with math homework-we all know how good she was at math- and she taught us to be kind and considerate to others- people and animals. Pat welcomed everyone in her home and became everyone’s mom . . . cousins and friends were all treated as her own. She was always available to help anyone who needed. If she couldn’t give in material items, she was sure to give 10 times in love and caring, which was a much greater gift. Pat saw a need and became an EMT in Dalbo, MN. This began a new chapter in her life helping in new ways. She continued her quest and became a Nurses Aid. She was honored with the Employee of the Year award at Camilia Rose nursing home in Coon Rapids, MN, and also worked at Elim home in Princeton, MN, and Grandview in Cambridge, MN – her eventual home, now known as Grace Pointe. Pat married again in 1996 and became Mrs. Paul Sodman. Pat and Paul traveled out west to Nevada for a brief time but settled back home in MN, all along working with the elderly. She cared for everyone she came in contact with from a hurt chicken (one-eyed Willy) she nurtured back to health; Suzie - the handicapped cat; helping care for her baby grandson in the hospital with asthma; numerous family and friends she just stepped up and did what was needed; to a homeless man in New York City that she bought a whole bucket of chicken and gave to him. It’s just who she was. Laughter was important to her and every day she found an opportunity to smile and laugh at something. And once the giggles started, there was no hope. You have to be a little crazy to survive in this family. Even as her time came to a close, she wanted to help others in the nursing home by decorating her door to brighten their day as they pass by. Pat has touched us all and made such an impact on us that it seems we won’t be able to continue that grace without her with us in this world; but that is exactly the part that stays in our hearts forever. Wife, Momma, Sister, Aunt, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Friend: Pat lived her life helping others! We miss you, we love you forever. God bless. Surviving Pat are her six children: Walter ‘Bill’ Schaar, Jr., (Tammy), Robin Hodges (Dave), Scott Schaar (Megan), James Schaar (Reni), Todd Schaar and Annette Green (Douglas); 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and her siblings: Richard Puffer (Mary), James Puffer (Evelyn) and Marcella Randall (Larry). Memorial services were held on Wed, Nov 26, 2014, at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Braham. Inurnment was in the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Braham. Arrangements were with the Rock-Ingebrand Funeral & Cremation Services, Braham, MN.
