Major Claude P. Hardee, Retired Assistant Chief, Whiteville Police Department age 81, died Thursday, November 20, 2014 in his home. Born August 17, 1933 in Horry County, he was the son of the late Charles Gleaton Hardee and Ruth Powell Hardee. In addition to his wife, Eloise Gaskins Hardee, he was preceded in death by a son: Greg Hardee; four brothers; and three sisters.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a MP in Germany for two years. He also served as an officer with the Whiteville Police Department for twenty eight years.

He is survived by three sons: Retired Major Sanford Hardee, Columbus County Sheriff’s Department (Ann) of Tabor City, Andy Hardee (Christie) of Clarendon, Mitchell Hardee (Sandra) of Clarendon; eight grandchildren: Anthony Hardee, Nicholas Hardee, Timmy Hardee, Christy Blanton, Caroline Hardee, Evan Hardee, Austin Hardee, Blake Hardee; eight great grandchildren: Charlie Hardee, Ethan Hardee, Cameron Hardee, Gracie Hardee, Kaitlyn Hardee, Callie Hardee, Alyssa Hill, CJ Hill; and special friend Ann Hill of Hallsboro.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 2 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, Tabor City. Entombment will follow in Twin City Memorial Gardens, Loris, SC.
