Harold D. Haley 88 of Rosemount passed away peacefully on Nov 14, 2014 surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Eliot, ME on May 7, 1926 Hal was the son of Harold Henry and Marguerite Jane McDonald Haley.

Hal enlisted in the US Navy in Feb 1944 at age 17 and served for 26 months. Like many other veterans the G-I Bill gave Hal the opportunity to attend college. He took full advantage of this opportunity and graduated from University of Maine in 1950 and Columbia University in 1952 with a master's degree in political science. He traveled to Germany in 1953 on a Fulbright Scholarship for a year of study at the Free University of West Berlin. Hal was a life-long student, always reading and keeping up with the news and politics. After beginning as a copy boy, Hal worked for 33 years at CBS news and retired in 1987 as an Emmy award winning Senior Executive Producer of Special Events. His tales about the evening news and Democratic and Republican national conventions made for both educational and incredibly entertaining stories at family gatherings.

Preceded in death by wife Francoise with whom he traveled to Europe, raised a family and cared for during her battle with ALS until her death in 1990.

Survived by children Colette Haley, Paul and wife Kim Haley and Patrick Haley; Grandchildren Megan, Nicole and Faith; siblings Barbara Phillips, Frank and wife Joan Haley and Bill and wife Carol Haley and other loved relatives and friends.

A loving husband, father and grandfather who was always very generous with his family, Hal dedicated his life to the happiness of his children and grandchildren. His passion for photography has yielded slides, photographs, videos and an autobiography which chronicle his life experiences, family trips, holidays and cherished moments.

A memorial service honoring his life, humility and selfless spirit will be held at 2 pm on Wed Nov 19, 2014 at White Funeral Home in Apple Valley, MN with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
