Nettie was born in July 1928 in Nunda, S.D. to Carrie (Egge) and Alfred A. Halseth. She married William (Bill) Karras on Nov. 6, 1946; they were married for 55 years. They moved to California in 1957 and settled in Santa Barbara where they owned and operated NEBI's Coffee Shop in Isla Vista until they retired in 1971. Nettie rejoined the work force for and worked for Mission Linen 20 years befor retiring a second time.
Nettie lived life with joy and gusto! She and Bill filled their days going on cruises, dancing and entertaining. She participated in BSI Bible Study, volunteered with The American Lung Association, Better Breathers, was involved with Casa Serena of Santa Barbara, and was a friend of Bill W. for over 25 years.
Nettie touched the hearts of everyone she met. She will be missed and remembered for the love and joy she shared so freely!
She is survived by her sisters Ona and Charlotte, her sister-in-law Marilyn (John) Kuden of San Luis Obispo; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 4, 2007, at Rancho Embarcadero Community Center, 224 Vereda Leyenda, in Goleta, Calif.

Memorial services will be Sat., Aug. 18, for Nettie Jane Karras, 79, former Madison area resident, who died on July 26, 2007, at her residence. The services will be held at Lake Madison Lutheran Church near Rutland. A lunch reception will follow; all are invited.

Survivors include two sisters, Ona Pavlus and Charlotte Gulbranson; two sisters-in-law, Estelle (Karras) Gregerson and Marilyn (Karras) Gregerson; many nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and -nephews; and a cousin, May Widen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; a brother, Elnor Halseth; a sister, Ardith; and two nieces.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Casa Serena of Santa Barbara, American Lung Association or Visiting Nurses & Hospice of Santa Barbara.
