Robert DeVern Starks, age 84, of Earl Park, IN, passed away at his home November 17, 2014. He was a 30 year resident of Earl Park, IN. Robert was born July 3, 1930, in Valparaiso, IN, the son of the late Paul Starks and Trilla (Sherwood) Starks. He was educated at Trinity Lutheran School, Crown Point and graduated from Northwest Teacher's College, Maryville, Missouri.
A veteran of the US Air Force, Robert served from 1951-1956. He was Chief Clerk to General Jenkins, Commanding General 12th Air Force at Landsberg and Ramstein, Germany. Robert retired from US Steel where he was a metallographer in the Metallurgical and Chemical labs. He was a member of the University Lutheran Church, West Lafayette, IN. While serving in Germany Robert was active in the German Lutheran Church, helping to organize a Lutheran Serviceman Rally at Worms, Germany. He helped to organize Lutheran churches in every place he lived and was a charter member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Maryville, MO., Bayshore Lutheran Church, Miami, FL, Faith Lutheran Church, DeMotte, IN, St. Michael Lutheran Church, Hebron, IN, and Living Christ Lutheran Church, Oxford, IN. Surviving is his loving son, Michael.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Rensselaer, IN. Memorials may be made to the St. John Lutheran Cemetery through the St. John Lutheran Church, Rensselaer.
