John Michael Chessnoe "Mike" a retired Army Colonel and 25 year State Department Contractor died on November 15, 2014, at 68 years old, of complications from cancer in Arlington, VA where he resided.

Mike was born on August 2, 1946, in Ravenna, Ohio. As an Army Brat he lived in many locations and graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1964, along with his wife Virginia. He later received two Graduate Degrees and attended the National War College.

As an ordnance officer, his first assignment was to Germany in the 4th Armored Division, then to Vietnam. He was assigned to the Army Staff on several occasions and also the National Guard Bureau. He commanded a battalion in Korea and retired in 1989 from his final assignment as Commander of Sharp Army Depot in Lathrop, California. He was proud of the success he achieved in negotiating the first federal agreement between the Army, the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of California over a water quality conflict.

Upon retirement he entered a true second life. One of his first adventures was to post Gulf War 1 Kuwait in support of battlefield cleanup. He was involved in the LOGCAP program on several occasions in several countries, often as a Project Manager in support of soldiers.

After working as a support manager to the Transportation Security Agency post 9/11 he joined the contractors who provided infrastructure and life support for Coalition soldiers in Iraq. From 2005 until 2010 Mike served as Manager, Mentor, and Senior Advisor to both Iraqi and US General Officers as they began the rebuilding of that country.

In 2011 Mike got the call to join in the effort to train and equip the Army of Afghanistan. As project manager for 700 advisors and support personnel he brought a lifetime of experience to the Combined Security Transition Command.

Mike is survived by his wife of 25 years, his two sons and four grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters.
