James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Brophy; brother, Robert Brophy; sister, Georgia Brophy; and wife of 56 years, Nancy Brophy.
He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Brophy (deceased 11/6/14); Julie Lyle, Jennifer Brophy, and Jill Jones (Jamie); a son, Michael Brophy (Dixie); and beloved grandchildren, Kayla and Samantha Lyle, Tyler and Mallory Brophy, and Cooper and Crett Jones.
James graduated from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in 1957 with a degree in Geological Engineering. While serving as an Officer in The United States Army as a First Lieutenant, James and Nancy lived in San Francisco, Calif. and Fort Belvoir, Va. After leaving the Army, James worked in the mining industry in Montana, Ohio, Utah, Wyoming, and Alabama.
James was dearly loved by his family. He was a truly wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to his family. He was dedicated to his family and his wisdom and love will never be forgotten. James will be greatly missed by not only his family but by all that knew him.
The family would like to express its deepest thanks to the DCH CSICU staff and Hospice of West Alabama for their kind and loving care of our father.
