Mrs. Betsy Ruth Paul Banks, 67, of Grantsboro, died Friday, November 18, 2005 at Craven Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Banks graduated from James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 and practiced as a Registered Nurse until her death.
She earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Nursing at Eastern Carolina University and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing. Mrs. Banks worked as a nurse in a number of facilities in North and South Carolina including Baker Hospital, Medical University of SC, and St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, S.C., St. Luke Hospital, Pamlico County Community College, Merci and Hope Clinics in North Carolina. She worked in a five-year research program for the North Carolina Agromedicine Institute to study heat stress in migrant workers in eastern North Carolina.
She was a member of the Rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Banks was predeceased by her parents, Zack H. Paul and Adele Paul Cahoon, and son, Michael Paul Banks.
She is survived by her husband Dick Banks, son Richard T. Banks II and wife Beverly of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; brother Zack Paul and wife Peggy of New Bern; sister Nan Hazelwood and husband Charles of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren Thomas, Matthew and Amy Banks and their mother, Frances Banks of Goose Creek, S.C.; sisters-in-law Julia Ann Racid of Chesapeake, VA and Mary B. Horner of Newport News, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was Tuesday, November 22, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance. The immediate family visited with relatives and friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Interment was at Greenleaf Cemetery in New Bern.
