Bruce Atherton Smith, 69, of Woodstock, NB, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital, Woodstock, NB.after a courageous battle with diabetes; he went peacefully with his family by his side. Bruce was born in Toronto, ON, May 3, 1937, son of the late Hector and Bertha (Dickie) Smith. Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by brother; Donald.

Visitation will be held on Monday November 27, 2006 at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville from 3:30 to 5:30 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 2 PM from Saint Luke's Anglican Church Woodstock with Ven. Walter Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Diabetic Association would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to The Carleton Funeral Home, Jacksonville, 328-8430.

Graduated from the Ryerson Institute of Technology's Radio and Television Arts program in 1959. 6th Minister of Supply and Services for New Brunswick (10/27/1981 - 10/09/1991, 09/12/1995 - 07/21/1997) and Solicitor General for New Brunswick (10/09/1991 - 04/02/1994). Worked as a radio journalist for Woodstock's CJCJ-FM station and became News Director and General Manager for the station before entering politics.
