Anna was born in Deinz, Bavaria and immigrated with her parents and four older sisters. Her mother died on the voyage and was buried at sea in the Atlantic. The rest of the family arrived in the Port of New Orleans on Dec 28, 1846.

Anna married Johann Evangelist "John" Pilmaier, from Haag, Bavaria, at St Louis, MO. They had seven children by 1877:

John J - husband of Maria Louisa Pfiffner

Katherine - never married

Joseph J - husband of Katharine Holscher, Elizabeth Barbara Holscher and Mary Bernadina Schroeder

Elizabeth - wife of George Bendel

Anna - wife of George Albrecht

Marie - wife of Bart Jestel

Emma - wife of August Henry Herget

They moved to Dubuque and resided on Clay Street, where John was an established, successful businessman, blacksmith and real estate owner. John passed away in 1908 and in the 1910 census, at the age of 72, Anna lived alone in their residence on Almond Street. Next door was her youngest daughter, Emma Herget's family.

In the 1920 census, the widowed Anna was living with the Herget household at 1540 Clay. Anna's granddaughter, Bertha, the daughter of her son Joseph and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Holscher, lived with them as well.

Anna Maria (Hutter) Pilmaier passed away at her residence, 1540 Central Ave (formerly known as Clay St), Dubuque in May of 1927, a couple weeks past her 90th birthday. May she rest in peace for eternity.
