Rachel was the daughter of the late James and Estella (Ripley) Smith. She was raised in the Charlotte area and attended local schools. She was the widow of Mr. Harry Beard. The couple was married on April 16, 1931 made their home together in the Nashville area where they raised their family together. The couple had been married 72 years when Harry passed away in 2002
Rachel worked at Standard Stamping in Nashville, and later as a Playground Supervisor at Maple Valley Schools for many years before retiring.
She enjoyed playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, and doing plastic canvas art work. She had a very competitive spirit and hated to lose at a card game. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and staying in the cottage at Algonquin Lake.
Rachel is survived by her Daughters Janet (Jim) Jarman, Betty Lou (Earl) Hooghouse, and Kathryn Painter, 21 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 26 great great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Phillip Beard, daughter Barbara Sitzman, siblings Betty Wright, Ruth McManus, Mary Wright, Jenny Fisher, J.D. Smith, Max Smith, Harry Wetmore, Vaughn Smith, Franklin Smith, and grand daughter Joy Lynn Hooghouse.
Funeral Services were held at The Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, MI, on Saturday, November 22nd, with Pastor Christopher Painter officiating.
