She attended the one-room Cora School located near the farm where she grew up with her brother, Gene, which her family still owns to this day. Later the family moved into Smith Center where Peggy finished her primary education. She graduated from Smith County High School with the class of 1963, having earned the honor of Salutatorian.
Later that year, on July 14, 1963, she was united in marriage to LaVon Cole in the Congregational Church in Smith
Center, Kans.
Peggy completed one term of training at the Personal Training Institution in Omaha, Nebr. before she and LaVon moved to Phillipsburg. The couple began raising their family in town and later moved to the farm located
west of Phillipsburg.
While working at the South Grade School in Phillipsburg for 33 years, Peggy completed her Associate Degree through Colby Community College in 1992. She enjoyed following her children and grandchildren to all of their activities; baseball, softball, football, tennis, cross-country, wrestling, basketball, track, dirt track racing, horse shows, drag racing, orchestra and vocal music concerts and recitals.
She loved her Lord, Jesus Christ and was actively involved in the life of the Presbyterian Church in Phillipsburg where she served as a ruling Elder. She also served on many church committees and led the church youth group for many years. Her faith and discipleship was an important influence on her grandchildren and their friends.
Peggy was a devoted wife of 51 years and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her five children, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her parents, infant brother Gary Frank, and sister-in-law, Lois Hayes, preceded her in death.
