In the book, "Sumner County Tennessee Cemetery Records" by Snider and Yorgason, The Akins Cemetery is listed on page 12-47, 6/10 mi. east of Westmoreland on George Akins Road. Cemetery is approximately 400 yds. north of the road with no markers and is on property now owned by Robert Byrd. This book was published in 1981. When I visited this cemetery, there were 3 fieldstone markers with both head and foot markers. I have no idea who the 3rd burial was. It appears to have been a child due to the placement of the fieldstone markers. Grandpa Dick lived 3/10 of a mile east of this site on the right hand side of the road.
Grandpa died in December 1912 in Sumner County and was NOT taken to Cumberland County, a place where they had never been or knew anyone nor were they related to other people in Cumberland Co. I was shown this cemetery by family members who had visited this cemetery in their younger days and two had attended Richards funeral and watched him being buried. One of these was my mother who was Richard's great-granddaughter. She was about 4 years old at the time.
The earliest record of Grandpa Dick, I have been able to find, is his marriage on Feb. 22, 1855 in Davidson Co., Tennessee to Manerva Ann Hunt. This is also the only place I have found the name "Williamson" used. In all other instances he is referred to as Richard.

In the 1860 (June 18) census of Davidson Co., Tennessee, Richard age 25, Manerva age 20, William E. age 3, Florence age 2, Minerva age 2/12, Talton Moore age 30, Martha Moore age 29, James W., age 8, Charles S. age 5, John A. age 3, Andrew age 11/12, and Jennie Akins are listed in the 6th Ward.

Martha Akins had married James Tarlton Moore on 10 May 1846 in Davidson County. Are Martha and Jennie sisters of Richard???

In the 1857 Nashville City Directory, Richard Akin is listed as a drayman living at 123 S. College St. In the 1860 City Directory he is listed as R. Akins an oyster dealer living at 10 Deaderick St.

In the 1860 census, living next door to Richard and Manerva is Milton Akins and his wife and children, including his widowed mother, Nancy (Young) Akins. In the 1857 Nashville City Directory, Milton is listed as the Captain of the Steamship Ella and living at 49 South Front St.

Living in the same neighborhood is William Wilson Akins (1808-1890)and his wife Sarah Smith Couch (1818-1900). This family later moved to Robertson Co., Tn and then on to Simpson County, Kentucky. There seems to be a lot of interaction between Richard's family, Milton's family, William's family as well as the Couch family. Are they related??????

We don't have a complete listing of William Wilson Akins family nor of Moses and Nancy (Young) Akins family. Moses and Nancy had a son Moses R. born 11 Oct 1836. Could this be our ancestor Richard?? Could our Richard be a son of William Wilson Akins and Sarah Smith Couch????? William Wilson and Sarah Akins are buried in Sulphur Springs Cem in Simpson Co., Ky. So is Richards daughter Alice Lee (Akins) McClanahan. Is this a coincidence??? A lot of questions, but no answers.
Richards other children also include:
William Edward Akins (1855-1890) Buried Pleasant Grove Cem.
Florence Victoria (Akins) Weatherford (1858-1901) Buried Pleasant Grove Cem.
Sion Granville Akins (1865-1938) Buried Siloam Cem.
John Calvin B. Akins (1867-1936) Buried Springhill Cem.
Richard's death date is found in a lawsuit in Sumner County, Tennessee
