STANLEY ~ Nettie Louise Joy Nichols, 94, was a daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Joy and Daisy Fisher Joy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank "Pete" Nichols as well as her six older sisters.
Nettie was a long time member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Belmont where she taught Sunday school for many years and was very active in the United Methodist Women. She also taught Kindergarten for 20 years at Springfield Elementary School in Stanley. Nettie played the piano, sang a pretty alto and was known for memorizing poetry, especially Robert Burns and Elizabeth Barrett Brown-ing. She also loved to travel and take bus tours with her sister Inez. It made Nettie really happy to sit down with a new Whitman's Sampler and her Good Housekeeping. Nettie had strong political opinions that she mostly kept to her southern self. She also was an avid basketball fan and cheered for the players while watching them on TV.
Inurnment in Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly.
Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley is serving the Nichols family.
