GEORGE W M'LAIN DEAD

The people of Camden were saddened at the death of George W McLain, which occurred on last Sunday afternoon at his home on Lyttleton street. "Uncle" George McLain, as he was known was a familiar character to our citizens – polite, courteous, and in every way conducted himself in a way that commanded the respect and confidence of all the people of Camden. He was among the old citizens of our community; born in 1846, and for nearly fifty years conducted a very successful barber shop in this city.

He was twice married; eleven children of his first marriage and five of his last survive him. Thus he reared a large family all of whom have conducted themselves in a way as to be well thought of by both white and colored. While many of his children are living in other cities, fifteen of the were present to see their father put to rest.

His funeral was conducted from the Trinity M. E. Church, Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, by his pastor Rev. G. W. Moore. A large assembly of people attended the funeral to pay their last respects to this very worthy and respected colored man. A good portion of the church was occupied by the white people – probably more attending this funeral than ever before on an occasion of this kind.

The barber business which he so successfully built up will be continued by his three sons.
