Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22, at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Rev. Sandy Berg Holte officiating.
Lois was born April 30, 1925, in Aitkin to Mathias “Matt” and Ida (Swanson) Nickander. She grew up in Aitkin and lived at the Aitkin County Poor Farm which her parents ran for nine years and currently is the funeral home. She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1943. She and her twin sister, Betty, moved to Minneapolis where they both worked for Gambles Department Store.
She married Willard M. Hagman May 26, 1945, at Kimberly. They lived in Florida while Willard completed his military obligations. They returned to Aitkin and farmed in Fleming Township for many years. They moved to Dam Lake and eventually moved into town.
Lois was a member of the Aitkin American Legion Auxiliary and served as its president twice and was a member of the American Legion Color Guard. She served as an election judge in Kimberly and as the Fleming news correspondent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Ida Nickander; husband, Willard, in 2008; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Janzen and Damon Byler; two brothers, Bert Nickander and Carl Nickander; and three sisters, Alfhild Rasmussen, Isabelle Kehoe and Linnea Franzen.
