Married Lydia Elizabeth Shelton 3 Jul 1890 in Thurston Co WA. Children: Pearl, Iva, Lester Loy, Chester, Ivan. Jefferson owned a lumber mill and was the sheriff of Snohomish County. Jefferson was one of two deputies killed during the "Everett Massacre" of 1916.

Jefferson Beard (1871 - 1916) began working as a log setter but soon was Republican appointee to the Everett police force and later as county deputy sheriff. Beard was killed while serving as deputy on the city dock November 5, 1916. Charges were brought against 74 Wobblies for murdering Beard. Thomas Tracy, the first to be tried, was acquitted.
