Robert Newell Grinnell (Bob) died July 24 from pancreatic cancer. He was 93.

He was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on Aug. 4, 1927, to Guy and Mrytle Grinnell. Their family lived in Libertyville, Illinois, where Bob graduated from Libertyville Township High School. He honorably served in the United States Navy in WWII. He returned and finished his master's degree at the University of Illinois and became a geologist for Mobil.

Bob met the first love of his life, Diane Goff. They were married for 20 wonderful years and had three children before she lost her battle with cancer. Several years later, Bob met the second love of his life, Edith Kokernot. They were married for 41 wonderful years until she lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease in 2020.

Bob's hobbies included watercolor painting, woodworking and enjoying the outdoors, especially in his beloved Jackson Hole where he spent as much time as possible at his home on Saddle Butte. Bob also volunteered for the National Park Service at Menor's Ferry, where he guided visitors across the Snake River on the ferry.

Bob is survived by his children, Gary Grinnell, Alisa Stevens and Barbara Leonard; and his step-children, Jan Kokernot, Peggy Kaplan and Diana Britton. He is preceded in death by his stepson, Walter Kokernot. Bob had 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and one more on the way.

Bob's kind and gentle soul along with his twinkling eyes and constant smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
