CANBY — Services for Ethel C. Swenson, 89, of Canby will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Full Gospel Assembly Church in Canby. Burial will be in the Canby Cemetery. Visitation at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m. today. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Swenson died Sunday, March 14,1993, at Canby Community Health Services.
She was born Feb. 1, 1904, in Deuel County (S.D.) to John and Maude (Troupe) Carton. She grew up in the Gary and Canby communities. She taught school for several years.
Fritiof Swenson and she were married May 20, 1925, at the Providence Valley Lutheran Church parsonage. They farmed near Gary. After her husband's death in 1973, she moved to Dawson. Since 1989, she had resided at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Dawson.
Survivors include three daughters, Deloris Harris of Canby, Arlys (Mrs. Gerald) DeWitt of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Joyce (Mrs. Warren) Nyhus of Blaine; a son, Russell of Sheffield, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Thorpe of Minneapolis and Viola Thorpe of Canby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant brother.
