On Rt 16 south of Arnoldsburg WV, near the sleepy little village of Chloe, there is a roadside marker which points travelers to the grave of legendary mountain man, explorer, hunter, Mike Fink, a short distance away. Mike Fink and an Indian (unnamed) were killed in about 1780 and are buried there side by side.
Story goes that Mike Fink, Adam O'Brien and others were deer hunting in the Low Gap area of what is now Calhoun Co., WV. While waiting at a salt lick for deer, they were ambushed by indians, shots were fired, Fink shot an indian and an indian shot Fink. Both died. O'Brien fled, but returned later and buried Fink and the Indian where they fell.
