Kenneth Warren Cross, 93, formerly of Freetown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in Cortland, NY.

Kenneth was born on November 12, 1920 in Vernon, OH, the son of George and Mattie Haggard Cross, and was a 1938 graduate of Marathon Central School.

A lifelong farmer, he owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Freetown, which included the family homestead where he lived for 81 years. He was one of the original owners of Marathon Lanes. Kenneth was a member/trustee of the former Freetown Methodist Church and active in Grange, Farm Bureau, Cortland County Extension Service, 4-H and Freetown Cemetery Association.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Diana Chase) Cross of Marathon, Linda (Carl) Robison of Scott, Janette (Michael) Smith of McGraw, Charles (Deborah) Cross of Freetown, and Bonnie (Harl) Thomas of Locke; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Alene Cross Bronson; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Dora, in 2009, son, Steven Cross in 2004 and infant son, John Raymond Cross in 1956. He is also predeceased by brothers, Gordon, Maxwell, and H. Douglas Cross and sisters, Elnore Hogan and Doris Marion.

Funeral services will be held at the Barth Funeral Home, McGraw, NY, on Monday, July 21, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Archie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Freetown Cemetery.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
