Actress. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she lived there until the age of 14 when her parents moved to California. Upon graduation from Santa Monica High School in 1942 she was signed by Paramount Studios. Extraordinarily beautiful, but shy, she had no acting experience. Paramount felt that she had great potential because of her beauty and hired an acting coach to work with her. Gail appeared in her first film “Henry Aldrich Gets Glamour” at the age of 19. As her career progressed she turned to alcohol to control her stage fright. She appeared in a number of films including “Our Hearts Were Young And Gay” in 1944 and “Angel And The Badman” in 1947. In 1949 she married actor Guy Madison. After a conviction for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, Paramount declined to renew her contract in 1950. She divorced Madison in 1954. She continued to act, but battled alcoholism. Her last film was “The Silent Call” in 1961. She died in her Los Angeles apartment at the age of 36 from a heart attack attributed to alcohol.
