US Congressman. Born William Eldridge Frenzel, he earned bachelor's (1950) and master's (1951) degrees from Dartmouth College, and served in the Navy during the Korean War (1951-1954). Frenzel was employed in the trucking and warhouse industry, and served as President of the Northern Waterway Terminals Corporation and the Minneapolis Terminal Warehouse Company. A Republican, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1963 to 1969. In 1970 he was elected to the US House of Representatives. He was reelected nine times, and served from 1971 until 1991. Frenzel rose to become the ranking Republican on the Budget Committee, a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee, and Vice Chairman of the House Administration Committee. After leaving Congress, Frenzel was Chairman of the Ripon Society, a Republican think tank, and was involved with the Brookings Institution and other Republican and conservative policy study organizations, as well as several government commissions.
