Mr. David Thomas Speer, age 52, of La Grange, MO died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his home near La Grange.

He was born June 16, 1962 in Quincy, IL a son of Chester Thomas and Annitta Bea Johnson Speer. He married Christina M. Terwelp in Clearwater, FL on December 1, 2005. She survives.

David graduated from Highland High School in 1980. After graduation he worked for American Safety in Palmyra. He joined the Navy after American Safety closed and David was very patriotic. Following his discharge from the Navy he attended Shields Airways in Jacksonville, FL obtaining his private pilots license. After returning to Missouri he attended CRST truck driving school and spent many years driving a truck. He and Christinia attended New Beginnings Church in Quincy. David loved cooking for his family, barbecuing, listening to music, watching Cardinals baseball and loved his sons very much.

He is survived by his wife, Christina Speer of La Grange, two sons, Dustin (Kendra) Speer of La Grange and Liam Speer of the home; step daughter, Danielle Terwelp of Quincy; mother Annitta Brockmiller and step-father Robert Brockmiller of La Grange; father, Chester T. Speer of Maywood; mother in law Sandra Terwelp of Quincy; sisters, Brenda (Robert) Herndon of Maywood, Brenda (Scott) Mitchell of Maywood, Lori (Will) Butts of Palmyra, MO, Terri (Tommy) Street of Florida, Debbie (Steve) Burnette of Tennessee, Barb (Randy) Helms of Tennessee, Patti (Jim) Campbell of Tennessee; brothers, Jerry (Carol) Brockmiller of Quincy, Brad (Nicole) Gunlock of Durham, MO; brothers in law, Al Terwelp of Lawrence KS, Joseph (Abby) Terwelp of Washington, Mark (Johnna) Terwelp of Quincy, Keith (Danielle) Terwelp of Quincy; grandchildren, Ryker Terwelp of Quincy, Serenity Speer and Chloe Speer of La Grange and one grandson Gage Thomas Speer to be born in January; two aunts, Hazel Wiseman of Quincy and Dorothy Speer of Maywood; nieces Kendra (Paul) Scifres of Maywood and Erin Florea of Canton and several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cecil and Genevieve Johnson, Thomas Van Cleve and Sarah Speer, step mother Loretta Speer, father in law Richard Terwelp and cousin Michael Chillion.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in La Grange conducted by Pastor Earl Lynn Wiseman and Pastor Bryan Gosney. Burial with military honors will be held at Durham Cemetery in Durham, MO. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 4 until 8:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in La Grange.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Liam Speer or Gage Speer Education Fund or Highland Softball Program.

Pallbearers will be: Paul Scifres, Robert Herndon, Mark Terwelp, Keith Terwelp, Jerry Brockmiller and Brad Gunlock

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Camden Scifres, Will Butts, Merlin Wiseman, Bryan Gosney, Joe Terwelp and Albert Terwelp
