Noah William McChrystal was born in Houghton County, Michigan in 1869, the fourth child of John McChrystal and Sarah Hancock McChrystal. The family moved to Eureka, Utah in December 1877 when Noah was still a boy. He died on February 16, 1898 after a short illness. He was survived by his wife, Estelle Eugenie Lafitte and young son, Herbert Joseph McChrystal. According to The Salt Lake Herald, February 19, 1898, after services at St. Mary's Cathedral, "the funeral cortege of 50 carriages wended its way to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where the remains were interred in the family plot, alongside that of his father."
