Funeral services for Wilma Gamblin Scarborough, age 76, of Yantis will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at First Baptist Church of Yantis with Rev. Shannon Hassel officiating. Burial will follow at Yantis Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are Warren Attaway, Boyd Gilbreath, Joe Stephens, Mike Smith, Jerry Miller, Harold Pitts, Sydney Walker, Freddy Fisher and Neal Norton. Honorary Pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Yantis Men's Sunday School Class, Ladies II Sunday School Class and Busy Bee Quilting Club of Yantis.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Today at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scarborough died on January 9, 2006 at 9:20 a.m. in Yantis. She had been in ill health for several years and died in her home surrounded by family members.
Wilma was born November 19, 1929 in Yantis and was the daughter of Roy Gamblin and Julia Lorene Nolen Gamblin.
She graduated from Yantis High School in 1947 and married Marlin Scarborough on August 19, 1948. They lived in Yantis where Wilma worked many years for the City of Yantis. She served on the Board of Directors of the Yantis Federal Credit Union for many Years. Wilma received various awards for her community service including the Community Service Award from the Texas Water Utilities Association in 1994, three awards of appreciation from the Yantis Volunteer Fire Department, and an appreciation award for serving 22 years as the City Secretary of Yantis. Yantis recently built a city park and named it Scarborough Park in honor of Marlin and Wilma's commitment and service to the Yantis community. Mrs. Scarborough was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yantis, a member of the Ladies II Sunday School Class and a member of the Busy Bee Quilting Club of Yantis.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Marlin and three children. Gayle and wife Anita Scarborough of Waco, Ben and wife Marigene Scarborough of Yantis, and Julia and husband Michael Robbins of Yantis; one brother, Jerry Gamblin of Sulphur Spring; nine grandchildren, Rachel & Ray Cross, John & Matthew Scarborough of Waco, Becci & Nathan Hooten, Greg Scarborough of Copperas Cove, Brena Robbins, Clifton Robbins of Yantis, LaTisha & Gary Lay of Waco, Thomas Hood of Phoenix City, Al; four step- grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.



Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lorene Gamblin; one sister, Iris Faye Gamblin; one daughter, Vickie Dell Wason of Pasadena, TX.
Memorials may be made to the Yantis Cemetery Association or the City Park C/O City of Yantis.
