Mrs. Christine Pogue Morgan, age 95, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at NHC Hillview on Sunday, November 16, 2014.
Christine was born on July 25, 1919 in Hampshire, Tennessee to the late Bernard and Carrie Saunders Pogue. She grew up in what she called “the house on the hill” and always had fond memories of growing up in the Hampshire community. She was a graduate of Stephens School and Hampshire High School.
Mrs. Morgan was a wonderful mother to her three children. She enjoyed caring for her dog Topsy very much. She loved flower gardening, crocheting and quilting. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed shopping with her friends. She had made many friends in her life especially in her varied ways of earning money to support her family. In those positions she worked as a beautician, a private sitter, even working at NHC Hillview, where she eventually received care herself, and at Wright’s Pharmacy where she worked the soda pop counter. Her grand-daughters remember her wonderfully delicious chocolate and chess pies.
She was a long-time member of Beech Hill Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant and loved her church family there very much.
Christine is survived by her beloved children: David (Betty) Morgan of Ashland City and Gayle (Jimmy) Attkisson of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Jennifer (Keith) Throneberry, Julie (Guy) Odom and Shannon (Glenda) Davis all of Columbia, and Eric (Rachel) Davis of Las Vegas; great grandchildren: Matt Davis and B. J. Davis of Columbia: brother: Allen (Mary) Pogue of Columbia; and nephew: Kirk (Pam) Pogue of Texas. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son: Wade Pogue Morgan; grandson: Dustin Wade Morgan; great grandsons: Steffan R. Graves and A. Halen Odom; and siblings: Hal Richardson Pogue and Clyde Elizabeth Pogue.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morgan will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Hueston Marshall, Jim T. Hamilton and Vernon Brooks officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the time of the service. Private burial services will be conducted at Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
Keith Throneberry, Guy Odom, Shannon Davis, Eric Davis, Matt Davis and B. J. Davis will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Wolaver, Don Wright, Allene Lovell, Mike Pruitt, Faye Davis, Alfred Edwards, Charles Robert Odom and Family, Debbie and Kim Huffman, Bettye Patton, Skip Bottoms and the Beech Hill Church of Christ family.
