--Only child of Glenn and Wanella Branaman. Janet grew up on the Main Line. She graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Botany in 1953.
--She married Paul D. Bryan, Jr. on Oct. 1, 1955. They lived in Wayne, PA until 1964, when her husband was transferred to Atlanta. They moved to Stockbridge, GA a few years later. Janet and Paul had 3 daughters: twins Linda Ray and Carolyn Janet, and Melanie Ruth Bryan. 11 grandchildren.
--Occupation: After college, she worked doing laboratory research. Much later she was a junior high science teacher.
--A devout Christian and lifelong Presbyterian. Janet had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. She and her husband were founding members of Perimeter Presbyterian Church and two of its daughter churches.
--A talented musician, she began accompanying her middle and high school choirs on piano. She also played the organ and carillon in college.
--Her interests were gardening and needlework. She was a member of the American Needlework Guild and Embroider's Guild of America.
