Memorial services for the Rev. B. Max Byrd Sr., 78, Lawrence, were Tuesday, May 29, at Dora First Baptist Church in Dora, Ala.

The Rev. Byrd died Tuesday, May 22, 2007.

He was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Enterprise, Ala. He graduated from Howard College in Birmingham, Ala., now Samford University, in 1952 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., in 1957.

The Rev. Byrd was pastor of Newton Baptist Church from 1958 to 1962, Bynum Baptist Church from 1962 to 1966, Catawba Springs Baptist Church from 1966 to 1968 and Dora First Baptist Church from 1968 to 1981, all in Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Gibbons Byrd, and a sister, Catherine Cresap.

Survivors include a son, Max Byrd Jr. and wife Cathleen, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; two daughters, Amy Goertz and husband Duane, Lawrence, and Robbie Daniels and husband Jeff, Columbia, Mo.; three sisters, Tommye Byrd and Jeanette Moates, both of Enterprise, Ala., and Ottie Thomas, Luverne, Ala.; and eight grandchildren, Nathan, Tommye and Caroline Byrd, Alex, Adam and Aidan Goertz, and Andrew and MaKenzie Daniels.
