Major League Baseball Player. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed-hitting outfielder was called "The Crabapple Comet" during his six-year stay with the New York Giants from 1940 to 1941 and 1943 to 1946. His best season was 1941, when he hit .288 with 38 doubles and nine triples and scored 95 runs. He hit .272 lifetime with 105 doubles, 39 triples, 21 homers and 214 runs batted in.
