O'HARA, ROBERT L. 78 - of Margate, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side. Born in Atlantic City, August 23, 1935, he was a lifelong resident of Margate and graduated from Holy Spirit High School, after which he enlisted in the Navy. After he was honorably discharged, Bob joined the Margate City Police Department, where he retired after 25 years of service, and continued to work for the city of Margate in the public works department for 17 more years. Bob was a member of Blessed Sacrament church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and lector, and member of the Longport Volunteer Fire Department. Bob was a motorcycle enthusiast, belonging to the Blue Knights, Red Knights, and Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Clubs, and was also a member of the East Coast Diving Club. Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia O'Hara, and his son, Kenneth O'Hara and grandchildren, Catherine and Jack, and extended family of daughters, Christine, Cathleen, and Diane, and grandchildren, Patrick and Caitlyn. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine O'Hara, and his son, Kevin O'Hara. Bob left a lasting impression with all his family and friends, and his family is proud of the contributions he made to the local community. Viewing services will take place at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 7300 Ventnor Ave, Ventnor City, NJ, on Tuesday evening, March 11 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and also on Wednesday, March 12, at Holy Trinity Parish: Blessed Sacrament Church on Jerome Avenue in Margate from 10:00am to 10:45 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the Kevin O'Hara Scholarship, through the Margate City Fire Department. Checks should be made out to: FMBA Local #41 and mailed to PO Box 3052, Margate, NJ 08402 or Margate City Fire Department, 1 S. Washington Ave, Margate, NJ, 08402.
