Mary Pesely was born Marija Prizmic-Kremezija in Vela Luka, Korcula Island, Croatia (then part of Austria), the daughter of Marin Prizmic-Kremezija (b. 1874) and Anica Bacic-Olic (1877-1947). She married Mike Pesely (born Marko Peselj) from Smokvica, another village on the island of Korcula. They had four children: Violet Theresa Pesely (1922-2000), later Mrs. George Unger, Anna Lillian “Annie” Pesely (1925-1928), John Albert Pesely (1930-2000), and Mike Merriam Pesely (b. 1940).
