He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Ship Surveyor and then worked as a contract purveyor at Creasy Electronics. He was a former member of Oakland Christian Church and recently became a member of Suffolk Christian Church. He was also a member of the Benevolent Protected Order of Elks, the Progressive Club and the Joe Bagley Post 57 of the American Legion in Suffolk.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and his brother Donald. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Becky Salp and her husband, Thomas Salp, along with three nephews and one niece.
Gene's burial service was private for family only due to Covid-19. It was conducted by the Rev Michael D. Halley. The family suggested memorial donations be made to the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Department, 300 Kings Fork Rd. Suffolk, VA 23434.
