One 1860 Slave Schedule lists John Middlebrows as a white slave owner who owns 10 slaves. The 1860 US Census shows John S. Middlebrooks married to Sophia Middlebrooks
In 1870, Stephen (1815) and his wife Caroline (1840) listed with their children living next to widowed Sophia Middlebrooks. They are listed as farm laborers.
It is believed that Stephen lived next door to his brother William Middlebrooks (1800) and his wife Liza (1827) as well as a man named Benjamin Middlebrooks. Benjamin is believed to be the son of William.
