Mrs. Jacob De Hamer, nee Mary De Ruiter, was born in Zeeland, The Netherlands, on July 21, 1875. She was united in marriage with Jacob De Hamer in Zeeland, The Netherlands, in 1899. At the age of 28 years she with her husband and oldest children came to America, settling first in New Jersey, later moving to Illinois and then to Iowa and had lived in and around Pella for the past 40 years. To this union were born eight children; two passed away in infancy and the other six surviving are: Nicholas De Hamer of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Peter De Hamer of Grandville, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Jennie, Mrs. Robert Harvey of Oskaloosa; Fannie, Mrs. Albert Kelderman of Oskaloosa; Katie, Mrs. Arthur Stansbury of Fremont, and Marinus De Hamer of Des Moines.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella when death came to her on Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, 1956, having reached the age of 81 Years, 4 months and 6 days.

Surviving besides her husband, residing at 1002 Washington St., Pella, and her six children, are 20 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren and one brother, John De Ruiter of Paterson, N.J. Preceding her in death were two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Nov. 29, 1956 from the First Christian Reformed Church at 1:30 p.m., conducted by the Dr. P. Y. De Jong. The congregation sang Psalm 68 vs. 10 and Godert Vander Hart sang "Beyond the Sunset." Casket bearers were Garrett Poortinga, Tunis Kempkes, Bert Nibbelink, William Vos Jr., Gerrit D. De Jong and Nick Arens. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery.
