Mrs. Sarah Sackett, widow of the late John W.Howe, daughter of Colonel Orange and Mrs. Amanda Sheldon Sackett, died at her home in Fowlerville on Friday, Oct 11,1918, age 92 years. Mrs. Howe was born in Riga, December 27 1826. Her father was one of the first merchants in that vicinity. Soon afterwards he sold his store and purchased an extensive tract of land in Canawaugus, becoming one of the most prosperous and honored pioneer farmers of Genesee Valley.
Colonel Sackett's farm was historical as it was located in the Indian village of Can-a-wau-gus, where some of the most distinguished men of the Iroquois Confederacy were born.
In the winter of 1867 Mrs. Howe was married to John Howe, a merchant in Fowlerville, and for many years a member of the Manufacturing firm of B.F. Dow and Company.
She leaves one sister; Mrs. Daniel Lacy, of Avon; two brothers, Captain Orange Sackett, also of Avon, and Samuel, of Rochester.
The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church and was active in its various societies until about two years before her death, when she became too feeble to go from her home. She was a woman of beautiful character and was universally beloved.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon with only a simple service at the grave conducted by Dr. Frost of Avon. The burial was at Mt. Pleasant.
