WESTBROOK -- Richard (Dick) Burdwood, 75, of Westbrook died peacefully at Maine Medical Center on March 17, 2007, after a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 10, 1931, in Sebago Lake. He was one of five children of Gladys (Thorne) and John F. Burdwood. He attended and graduated from Standish schools. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean conflict. He was employed for several years with Firestone, then Commercial Distributors and later retired from the City of Westbrook.
He married Beverly A. Chapman and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May 2006. His greatest joys were hunting, fishing, his children and grandchildren. Dick was a member of the Prides Corner Congregational Church, Kiwanis Club and several local service organizations.
He is survived by his brother James (Lyle) Burdwood of Sebago Lake; sister Beverly Anderson of Sacramento, Calif.: wife Beverly; daughters Mickelene Burdwood of Topsham and Kimberly Halmhofer of Redding, Calif.; son William of Wexford, Pa.; and seven grandchildren, Austin, Elliott, Cody, Logan, Emma, Lily and Robin.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, March 21, 2007, from 2 - 3 p.m. at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road in South Windham, with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Interment will take place later this spring at Sebago Cemetery in Sebago Lake. Condolences may be expressed at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made in his memory to:
