Thomas settled on the east bank of the Quinnipiac in 1739 near Pine Bridge which became known as Mansfield Bridge and is now called Broadway Bridge. He served in the Revolution (In Danbury Alarm 1777, listed on hospital returns) and later his home was a business center.

In 1787 he was taxed for a four wheeled vehicle, a chaise, and was the only resident to pay tax for sliver plate. Thomas and Hannah's gravestones were ordered from Thomas Gold.

Inscription

In Memory of
Thomas Mansfield Esqr.
who departed this life
Novr. 4 1798
In the 85th. Year of his Age
The Righteous shall be in everlasting Remembrance
A Soul prepared needs no delays
The summons comes the Soul obeys
Swift was his flight and short the road
He closed his eyes and say his God
The flesh rests here till Jesus come
And claims his treasure from the tomb
