SARAH SALYER HARRIS was born to Fielding and Margaret "Peggy" (Hale) Salyer on January 15, 1832 in Floyd County, Kentucky. She married Jesse R. Harris on March 15, 1848, in Floyd County, KY.

In 1850 census they are shown living next to her parents in Hilburn, Madison County, Arkansas.

In 1860 census Jesse and Sarah are in Madison County along with children: Jane, James, Emily, William, Benny (Benjamin b. 1860 - d. ?)

Unable to locate 1870 census, however, daughter Lydia was born July 22, 1869, in Arkansas.

1880 census they are in Bell County, Texas, with an additional four children: Fielden, John (b. 1863-d. before 1880), Sarah and Lydia.


SARAH SALYER HARRIS is buried in Zion Cemetery, Comanche County, Texas, along with her husband Jesse, and children: Jane Harris Malear, James Alexander, and Fielden.

Gravesite Details

Old headstone with a lamb on top...Sarah wife of J. R. Harris. There is an inscription at the bottom but would have to do a rubbing to read it. Grave to the right is Jesse Harris.
