Dena Josephine Ver Schuure Van Mersbergen: Dena passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 16, 2004 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 5 days.
Dena's memory is honored by her three daughters and their spouses: Beatrice Moore, Dena & Arvin Van Engelenhoven, and Mary & Charlie Lynch and two sons & a daughter-in-law, Fred & Cindy Ver Schuure and David Ver Schuure , all of Oskaloosa; She was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Marion Henry Brower of Macon, MO.
Dena Josephine Ver Schuure Van Mersbergen, daughter of Henry & Emma Wheeler Brower was born November 11, 1916 in Pella, Iowa. As a young woman, Dena helped her father raise plants and sell them in Pella.
She married Andrew Ver Schuure in 1935; together they raised their family and operated Ver Schuure Custodial from 1963 to 1975. They were married for 41 years; Andrew passed away on Nov. 17, 1977.
On June 9, 1980, she married John Wooten; he passed away on Dec. 3, 1983. She married Lawrence Van Mersbergen on December 5, 1986; he passed away on Nov. 23, 1995.
After Lawrence's death and prior to moving to Jefferson Place, Pella in 2004, Dena resided with her children in Oskaloosa. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church; she enjoyed singing, dancing, and caring for her family and friends. Her family is very appreciative of the kind compassionate care she received at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Almira Jean Ver Schuure and one son, Harvey Lee Ver Schuure; two children in infancy; one sister, Iva Cummings and two brothers, Elliot & William Brower.
