Herman Martin, 76, of 302 Cedar Wood Drive, Shelby, N.C., widower of Lillian Rebecca Martin, answered the Master’s call on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at his residence.

Son of the late Edward Martin Sr. and the late Classie Lattimore Martin, he was born on Sept. 3, 1938, in Cleveland County, N.C.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Martin, Mallory Martin and Jack Martin

Mr. Martin was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church in Shelby and was last employed at Cone Mills.

He is survived by two daughters, Charlette Martin and Darlene Martin, both of Shelby; three grandsons, Maurice Byers (Brittany), Stedman Price and Titus Price; two brothers, James Martin and Thurman Martin, both of Charlotte; three sisters, Ruth Barran, Joan Martin Bowden, both of Bladensburg, Md., and Leila Dearing of Lanham, Md.; special caregiver, Matilda “Tilly” Adams of the home; and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Dover officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He will lie instate from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 302 Cedar Wood Drive, Shelby.
