Marilyn Riley, age 78, of 3523 Wisteria Lane, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 3:08 a.m. in Good Samaritan Home.
Marilyn was born August 11, 1936 in Canton, Missouri, the daughter of James O. and Alma Cooksey Lewis, the fifth of five children. Marilyn married James T. Riley on August 6, 1960. He preceded her in death.
She graduated from Canton High School in 1954, and Culver-Stockton College in 1958. Marilyn was a member of Chi Omega Soroity. After graduation she became Alumni Secretary for the College, and in the early 1960′s served the College as an Admissions Counselor in the greater St. Louis area.
Throughout her husband’s business career, Marilyn became active in Community Service, becoming very interested in Mental Health Issues. She joined the Foundation of Mentally Ill Children, State of Michigan, and eventually became their President. She was instrumental in challenging the state to recognize the importance of accredited public psychiatric centers, to remove adolescents from adult centers and to improve their programs of treatment. She also served on the Board of the Mental Health Association for the State of Michigan.
While living in Texas and Florida she was a member of the Mental Health Association of Plano, Texas, and a volunteer at the Children’s Center in Ft. Lauderdale. Her interest in children continued at her Venice, Florida residence.
Marilyn and Jim retired to Quincy in 1990, after living in numerous cities resulting from transfers by her husband’s employer.
Marilyn was a member of Vermont Street Methodist Church, PEO, and Women’s City Club.
Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge and attending the Quincy Symphony, The Quincy Civic Music Association, and the Quincy Community Theater. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her Chi O sisters and her PEO sisters.

(Charles) Dare of Plymouth, MI; four grandchildren: Riley and Emily Quinn of Indianapolis, IN; and Rachel and Henry Dare of Plymouth, MI; several nieces and nephews, including Randy (Janice) Riley of Quincy; and a brother-in-law, Robert G.
