This is a memorial to the six sons of John and Charity Ferguson Boyles who died while serving as soldiers for the Confederacy in the War Between the States.

James married Susan Ann Browder 23 Jun 1861.

He enlisted in Co. H North Carolina 53rd Infantry Regiment on 30 April 1862. He mustered out 10 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia.
