MIDDLESBORO - Margaret Ann Everly Shoffner passed peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, November 6th, 2014 at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a rapid decline in health. Ann was born on July 3, 1931 in Pittsburg, PA, the daughter of Margaret Shaffer Everly Crawford and Paul Darlington Everly and devoted step-father, William Crawford, all deceased. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Jane Crawford Spears; brother, Paul "Pete" Darlington Everly; and former husband and father of her four children, James Roy Shoffner. Ann Everly grew up in small towns in West Virginia and in David, Kentucky where her father (Wm Crawford) was a mining superintendent. She attended boarding school with her sister, Jane at Pikeville Academy and then attended Lincoln Memorial University. She continued her education and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1953 with degrees in biology and physical education and was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married James Roy Shoffner in 1954 and moved to Fairbanks, Alaska with the U.S. Air Force before making their home in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Middlesboro, KY. Possessing a true servant's heart, Ann faithfully loved and cared for her family. She was loving of heart and generous of spirit and gave freely of her time to others. Her children were her greatest love but her grandchildren were her passion. Affectionately known as "Nana" to many, she will always be remembered for her beautiful spirit and for her appreciation of the simple things in life. Ann was a beautiful lady whose expressions of gratitude and thankfulness will forever be missed. Her humble, loving and charitable life was one well lived. Ann is survived by her son John Paul Shoffner and Janine Hill; his children Kendall Shoffner Acomb, husband Dave and their children, Weller and McClain Acomb; and Brynn Taylor Shoffner; Her daughter, Jamie Shoffner Bowling and husband, Mike and their children, Ashley Everly Bowling Kraska and husband Richard and their children, Everly Chatterton and Elizabeth Shoffner Kraska; Adam Bowling and his wife, Becky and their son, Harrison Shaffer Bowling; and Blake Shoffner Bowling; Her son, James Jeffrey (Jay) Shoffner and his wife, Kelly; and their children, Madison Ann and Mallory Lay Shoffner; Her son, Jeremy Alan (Jerry) Shoffner and his wife, Farra; and their children, Celia Anne and Nicklaus Alan Shoffner.
Also surviving are her brothers, John Howard Everly and wife, Joyce; John (Jack) Crawford and wife, Valerie; Sister-in-law, Sue Crawford Hunter; Brother-in-law, Joe Spears; and several nieces and nephews. Ann is also survived by special friends Barbara Hamblin, Shan Bacon, Emily Smith, Betty Bowling and Kathy Webb. The family wishes to show appreciation to those who touched her life and those who cared for her during her last months. Special recognition to Dr. Kaw and the loving nurses at the Middlesboro Health Care Facility who cared and nurtured her through her final days and to the special nurses at MARH ICU who worked hard to make her death a peaceful one. Her light is shining brightly in heaven. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church of Middlesboro.
