Margaret's ancestors are not currently proven. However there is a strong circumstantial case that her parents were John and Mary Wilson Doak. John Doak was born in Scotland. He emigrated to the Colonies in 1718 with his parents and brother James. They settled first in New Hampshire, moved to Pennsylvania, then Virginia. John and Mary were living on the Alamance River in Guilford County, NC Colony by 1761 and died there in 1770.
Since John Nicks was born and raised in Guilford County it's likely that Margaret and John met when they were children. Both families attended local Presbyterian churches.
