Author. He was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. He is fondly remembered for his books, also adapted to the cinema, "Momo" and "The Neverending Story." He also wrote "Juggler's Tale," "Mirror in the Mirror," "Ophelia's Shadow Theater," "Night of Wishes" and "Jim Knopf and Lukas the Engine Driver." He died in Stuttgart of stomach cancer.
