GOSHEN — Joe Evans, 85, died Saturday evening at Elkhart General Hospital.


He was born April 17, 1929 in Bristol, to Bert and Katie (Sample) Evans.

On July 3, 1976, he married Lou Ann Hutton in Constantine, Mich.

She survives along with three children, Sharon (Colin) Evans-Benard, Wallingford, Conn., Karen (Liam) Odonvan, Elkhart, and Bert (JaiAnn) Evans, Goshen; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and four sisters.

A lifelong area resident, Joe was a member of the Bristol American Legion Post No. 143. He enjoyed hunting and gardening and was an avid Dale Earnhart fan. He had a special love for his dog, Jake.

Visitation took place Wednesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where a 1 p.m. funeral service will be conducted today. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow, Trinity Lutheran Church, Sturgis, Mich. will officiate.

Burial, with a military graveside service, will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bristol.
