Mattie Sanders, 85, of Bassett, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was the wife of the late Everette Sanders.

Mattie Cassady Sanders, 85, of Bassett died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born Oct. 18, 1917, the daughter of the late George Cassady and the late Josie Wilson Cassady. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Sanders; two sons, Eddie Sanders and Leon Sanders; a daughter, Linda Sanders; four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are a son, Billy J. Sanders of Bassett; a daughter, Eva Mae Frost of Richmond; a sister, Janie Goard of Bassett; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Fairway Baptist Church with Revs. Mike Montgomery and Bobby Rakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday evening at the church.
