Miss Melanie Kaye Mitchell, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax, Va.
Melanie was born on July 14, 1955 in Bremerhaven, Germany to the late William Earl Mitchell and June Smith Mitchell of Sylvatus, VA. In addition to her mother, Melanie is survived by her brother, William Earl “Billy” Mitchell, Jr. of Sylvatus, VA; and sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly Anne and Christopher David Patton of Galax, VA and her niece Emily Morgan Patton of Galax, VA. Also left to cherish her memory is the loving residents and devoted staff past and present of the Carroll House Group Home, Hillsville, VA where Melanie lived for 33 years.
Melanie “retired” on October 21, 2004 from the Mount Rogers Industrial Development Center in Hillsville, VA after 24 years of dedicated service, and afterwards, Melanie continued to participate in the developmental day program for the remaining years of her life. Melanie’s special gift was her smile, healing touch, and abundant love for all those who touched her life.
Funeral services for Melanie will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 in the Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church, Mitchell’s Crossroads, VA where Melanie gave her profession of faith on April 14, 1974.
Burial will follow immediately after the service in the Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Kim Robinette officiating.
